Pot Hole Hot Line

Street Lights Hot Line

Solihull MBC maintains 22,000 lamp columns to a standard of 98% of lamps serviceable at any time. Any single lights not working will be repaired with in 5 working days of notification, more than three lights not working in succession will be repaired within 24 hours, subject to local Regional Electricity Company's service to them.

Gritting

There are ten gritting routes covering 380km of the Borough. The aim is to maintain an effective transport system in the Borough for commuters and commerce by gritting principal and strategic routes throughout the Borough in accordance with the Council's Winter Maintenance Code of Practice. Highways maintenance

The Highways Authority inspects and maintains the Borough's 780km of public highway. This is divided into six areas and covers resurfacing, surface dressing, micro surfacing and applying special surface treatments to high street areas. Their objective is to keep the public highway at a level that permits safe and efficient movement of people and goods. Street nameplates - repair

Repairs to street nameplates are carried out within 5 working days of notification, replacement signs are erected within 8 weeks where necessary. To enquire about repairs to street nameplates, call 0121 704 6133.

Traffic surveys

A traffic survey is the recording of data relating to traffic and/or pedestrian movements. The two main ways of carrying out these surveys are by using automatic equipment or manually by an enumerator. There are three main reasons why Traffic and/or Pedestrian surveys are carried out:

  • To help with the design of signal junctions, pelican crossings, roundabouts and assess the effects of proposed developments or other road improvements.
  • To form a database of information to monitor changes on roads throughout the Borough
  • To check on compliance with Traffic Regulations

Transportation

The private car has a major impact on our lives. As users, passengers or drivers, it gives us unparalleled freedom, yet its environmental costs are high and ever increasing. These costs include polluting emissions, loss of land, noise, visual intrusion and ecological damage.
The Transportation Department is working under an Agenda 21 brief to devise a strategy for changes in Transportation within Solihull to mesh with the policies of the other West Midlands authorities who aim to form a cohesive transport system for the future.

Vehicle access crossings

If you wish to have a driveway access from the road to your house you will need to apply to the Council for a Vehicle Access Crossing. This is a chargeable service based upon the size of the crossing. For further information call 0121 704 6103.
