Membership Benefits

As members of the Solihull Advanced Motorists (which is a Registered Charity), there cannot be "benefits" as such to our members otherwise our charitable status becomes invalid. Our aims are to improve the standard of driving within the Solihull area and thus throughout the UK roads network.

Solihull Advanced Motorists affords its members varied opportunities for improving their driving technique. In preparing for their IAM Test, typically, our members enjoy 1 to 1 coaching in their own cars with a Group Observer. Upon successful completion of their test, members might like to undergo further training to become a Group Observer.

Associates and full members of the group are welcome and encouraged to attend regular theory classes. The classes are run three times a year, and whilst a suggested programme is used, they are informal and open discussion about advanced driving is common place. Please refer to the diary for the current schedule of classes. The theory classes are held at Civic Suite of Solihull Council House. They are open to all members and guests, and we especially encourage new associates to attend. Sessions start at 8pm and end at 10pm.

Members of the group and their guests may attend the monthly members' social meetings. The topics of discussion are varied though usually around a motoring theme. They are held at the Silhillians Clubhouse and Sports Ground, Warwick Road, Knowle, Solihull. This is just off junction 5 of the M42, about 100 metres south on the Warwick Road (A4141) towards Knowle from Solihull. There is ample safe car parking, and bar and refreshment facilities. Please make suitable transport arrangements if you intend to use the bar.

Members of the group receive a bi-monthly newsletter containing current motoring news, diary dates, details about the theory classes, members' monthly meeting and valuable information about advanced driving.

With large Membership numbers, the IAM has been able to negotiate discounts with other organisations and these can be offered to the IAM Membership. Please visit the IAM Web Site for details of these additional IAM benefits.
