Frequently Asked Questions

What area do you cover ?
Solihull Advanced Motorists operate within the Solihull area of the West Midlands. If you are interested in Advanced Driving within (or around) the Solihull area, please see the contact page to get in touch. If you wish to find out more about Advanced Driving in an area other than Solihull, you will need to contact your local group. You can find the group most convenient to you on the IAM Web Site.

How much does it cost ?
The full maximum costs are detailed below and they give the truth of the matter. You could have passed the Advanced Test and have become an Advanced Motorist and a Member of the IAM for no more than £85.00. Compare that to the cost of your Insurance No Claims Bonus or even your Insurance Voluntary Excess and you can see what a bargain passing the Advanced Test actually is. In fact , it's so cheap can you afford NOT to do it ?

Can I Join Online ?
Of course you can. Click HERE to read about joining online and if you are satisifed click on the link to complete the online joining form.

Can I try before I buy ?
Yes, of course you can. Contact the group and ask us to arrange a Demonstration Drive. Also, an IAM Member will go out with you for a FREE Assessment Drive. This will give you a flavour of what it is about. You can also talk to them without any obligation because they will not be "hard sell" salesmen.

I'm under 26, do I get a discount ?
The IAM have recently extended their widely acclaimed discount scheme for the younger driver. If you are aged 25 or under when you apply for your "Skill For Life" package, you can qualify for a £10 discount voucher. This voucher is valid for applications received at IAM Head Office up to 31 March 2004. Ask IAM Head Office or at your Local IAM Group for further details before submitting any application forms or paying any money.

Can I get cheaper Insurance ?
Maybe yes, maybe no. It all depends on a whole host of variables. It depends upon your age, the car you drive, your location and your insurer. More and more insurance companies are recognising the IAM test as an indicator of a better driver and some do reduce their premiums accordingly. To see if you can get a lower insurance quotation, visit the IAM Web Site or call your current insurer and ask if they would consider reducing their premiums should you pass the IAM test.
